The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has issued an urgent public notice appealing to slum dwellers to cooperate in completing the ongoing biometric survey of shanties on central and state government land by December 31, 2025.
Survey Targets Government Land Only
The notice clarifies that the survey covers only slums situated on central and state government land. Areas under the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are excluded, as these bodies are conducting their own separate surveys. Additionally, gaothans and koliwadas are completely outside the scope of this exercise.
Progress So Far
As of November 30, 2025, the SRA has numbered a total of 866,243 shanties. Out of these, biometric surveys have been completed for 594,814 shanties. The remaining structures must be surveyed before the December 31, 2025 deadline set by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also holds the housing portfolio.
Free of Cost and Official Teams Deployed
The SRA has emphasised that the entire biometric survey process is completely free of cost – no fees are to be paid by residents. A detailed list of authorised officials responsible for conducting the survey has been provided in the notice to ensure transparency and smooth coordination.
Final Appeal to Residents
The authority has made a direct appeal to all concerned slum dwellers to fully cooperate by participating in the biometric survey and providing necessary details before the December 31 cutoff. This is presented as the last opportunity to be included in the official mapping exercise.
