In a notable move beyond housing, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has approved the development of 2-acre tennis infrastructure in Kolekalyan, in partnership with the MahaTennis Foundation.

As per the Government Resolution dated March 17, 2026, the project will be developed on approximately 8,000 sq. meters of land, reserved for recreational use. The initiative aims to promote tennis and build a pipeline of talent from Mumbai and across Maharashtra.

Project Details

The development will include modern tennis courts, training facilities, and infrastructure to support both grassroots and professional-level players. The project will be executed on a joint partnership basis for 30 years, ensuring long-term development and maintenance.

  • MHADA will retain ownership of the land
  • MahaTennis Foundation will handle development and operations

Investment Structure

  • MHADA to invest ₹10 crore
  • MahaTennis Foundation to invest ₹5 crore
  • The project will operate on a non-profit basis, focused on sports development

Key Conditions

  • Land use restricted only to tennis and related training activities
  • No third-party rights or transfer allowed
  • 40% revenue share to MHADA in case of any commercial usage
  • MHADA officials and their families will get access and 20 free training slots annually

Urban Development Push

While MHADA is widely known for affordable housing, this initiative signals a shift towards integrated urban development, where sports infrastructure is also prioritized.

With space constraints in Mumbai, such partnerships help unlock land for community-driven infrastructure, enhancing the city’s livability and sporting ecosystem.
