Retail in the country has a major share when it comes to occupying real estate. If one has to talk about malls only then retail in top 8 main cities of India have 126 malls sprawling over more than 61 mn sq. ft.

However, here we won’t focus on malls, instead we will be talking about the retail stores that are serving essential products.

On Monday, after the retail outlets opened post the Janta Curfew, we found out that retail outlets had opened to a huge crowd.

There was panic visible on the faces of the common people, however, the staff at the retail outlets stood clam.

They knew what to do, and how to handle the situation. At all retail outlets people weren’t just allowed in the moment they arrived.

All were asked to wait outside. At this retail outlet near Mumbai, the staff distributed tokens with different colours.

The staff asked customers to not stand in queue, but even if people wanted to, they had made demarcation. This demarcation made it possible that people would stand at a distance fro each other.

After every interval they allowed a select batch, which was first come first serve basis. The coloured tokens were the parameter to decide who came first.

At the entry everyone was check with thermal infrared thermometers. They even disallowed a few kids from entry, who were accompanying parents. The kids were asked to wait outside in safe zones till parents came back.

At the entry there were hand sanitizers made available, which the attendant saw to it that everyone used religiously.

Inside the retail outlet there were clear announcements being made, so that people could follow them. Because of limited people inside, there was no over crowding as well.

The announcements stated the timings, and even the steps to avoid any contact that could lead to coronavirus spread.

The agenda that retail store remains comparatively empty and spacious was followed. This was being done at most of the stores in the city of Mumbai and surrounding areas.

Even the customers knew what is happening and were seen to be following the process without much of a fuss.

The entry and exit doors were properly manned, people were not being allowed to crowd at one place and things wen smooth.

The way stores have behaved in this time of emergency even they need an applause. They are doing the difficult thing of letting our homes run in times like this.

Even the local kirana stores have kept their stores open and are serving the customers.
