SRA issued permissions to 107 slum projects in a record two weeks time, for carrying out pre-monsoon work.

In a record of sorts, SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) cleared 107 files for carrying out pre-monsoon works in two weeks time.

This issuing of permissions gains further importance, because during lockdown, every industry, and even offices are impacted.

Monsoons are nearing and these pre-monsoon repairs and works are to avoid any mishap and protect the slum dwellers.

Deepak Kapoor, Chief Executive Office of SRA took to twitter, to make the announcement. He tweeted, “SRA diligently working on giving speedy permissions for Pre Monsoon repairs and works. So far permissions granted for 107 schemes for pre Monsoon repairs, images of Kandivali west scheme pre monsoon repairs on with full precautions.”

In the last week of April, the slum authority issued a circular allowing developers to carry out pre-monsoon measures. The circular stated, that these measures will be carried out following the guidelines for containment of COVID-19. 

When contacted, Deepak Kapoor said, “Total 107 SRA schemes pre monsoon repairs applications had come. In record two weeks, we have granted approvals to all 107 schemes for pre monsoon works. Not a single case pending. Work has started by most developers on most schemes.”

According to an official, all the correspondence regarding seeking permissions were carried out through official email id’s of respective Executive Engineer and permissions were communicated to the concerns through emails.

Kapoor even tweeted, “Monsoon just 18 days away and it won’t be delayed due to COVID. So took detailed review of all pre monsoon 107 sites. All applications cleared with speed and nothing pending.”

Under SRA, the developers are allowed to demolish slums and construct buildings for them. These buildings are meant to provide the slum dwellers a better standard of living.

The developer in lieu gets to construct a sale component that he sells to recover the cost of the construction of the rehabilitation building and earn his profits.
