MahaRERA held its first ever exam for real estate agents, the seniormost real agent to pass this exam is aged 74.

The Real Estate Agents examination was held by MahaRERA on May 20. 405 candidates out of 423 were successful in their first attempt. The total result for the examination was 96%.

A total of 5 candidates passed with 90% marks and jointly secured first position in points order. Even in this the first rank holder is a woman, named Geeta Chhabria, a Pune based real estate broker.

Of the 405 candidates 36 candidates were above 60 years. In this also 6 candidates were aged above 70 years. Oldest candidate at 74 years, he is a Mulund based real estate agent named S M Malde. All these 6 real estate agents scored above 70% marks in the examination.

MahaRERA is the first regulatory authority in the country to make such examination mandatory for agents in the interest of consumers.

Out of the expected 457, 423 candidates actually appeared for the examination held on May 20 at 10 places in the state namely Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Aurangabad, Dhule, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune and Solapur.

Maharera vide order dated January 10, 2023 has made it mandatory for new registration and renewal of agents to undergo training and obtain the prescribed certificate. Also, about 39,000 agents will have to complete this training before September 1 and get the certificate.

An ‘agent’ in the real estate sector is a very important link between home buyers and developers. Agents are often the first contact customers make. Clients get the primary information regarding the project from them.

Considering this importance of agents, all agents working in this sector should know the important provisions of RERA Act. Uniformity, consistency and clarity in providing basic information about regulatory provisions like Agreement for Sale, Allotment letter issued after registration of house, carpet area, defect liability period etc. Because It is on the basis of this information that consumers make a home buying decision.

Therefore, MahaRERA has made this training and certification mandatory keeping the customer’s interest in mind.
