Indian actor, director, and acclaimed screenplay writer Aatish Kapadia, along with his wife Alison Kapadia, has purchased a luxury apartment in Goregaon, Mumbai, for ₹15.31 crore. The transaction was registered in June 2025, according to property documents accessed by real estate platform Square Yards via the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Maharashtra website.

Located in the premium project Elysian by Oberoi Realty, the apartment offers a RERA carpet area of 281.50 sq. m. (approximately 3,030 sq. ft.) and includes three dedicated car parking spaces. The purchase attracted a stamp duty of ₹91.86 lakh and registration fees of ₹30,000.

Goregaon has rapidly emerged as a sought-after residential destination in Mumbai, with connectivity through the Western Express Highway, SV Road, and the Goregaon railway station. The neighbourhood offers smooth access to business districts like Andheri, Malad, and Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), while also housing major production houses, corporate offices, and studios. Upcoming infrastructure projects such as the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road and proximity to retail hubs including Inorbit Mall and Infiniti Mall have further elevated its desirability among Mumbai’s affluent professionals and creative community.

Aatish Kapadia’s Contribution to Indian Television

Aatish Kapadia is widely regarded as one of India’s foremost television writers and creative forces. Over a career spanning nearly three decades, he has played a central role as creator, writer, director, and producer of several iconic Hindi sitcoms and family dramas.

Some of his most notable work includes:

  • Khichdi (2002–2004; 2018 revival)
Kapadia created and wrote Khichdi, India’s first true sitcom that centered on the eccentric Parekh family. The show pioneered the genre of meta-humour in Indian television and became a cult favourite, spawning Instant Khichdi, a film adaptation (Khichdi: The Movie), and multiple revivals.
He also directed several episodes and co-produced it through Hats Off Productions.
  • Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004–2006; 2017 digital reboot)
As creator and writer, Kapadia crafted the show’s sharp, urbane humour that chronicled the everyday clashes between the snobbish Maya Sarabhai and her middle-class daughter-in-law Monisha. It is still regarded as one of the finest Hindi sitcoms ever produced.
Kapadia also directed many episodes, lending the show its distinctive tone.
  • Baa Bahoo Aur Baby (2005–2010)
Here, he contributed as writer and co-creator, exploring a Gujarati joint family’s trials and tribulations. The show earned immense popularity for its relatable characters and emotional storytelling.
  • Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey (2021–2025)
Kapadia served as writer and creative producer on this modern take on R.K. Laxman’s common man stories. The series resonated with a new generation while retaining the essence of the classic.
  • Pushpa Impossible (2022–2025)
He continued as writer and producer, focusing on the inspiring story of a woman striving to complete her education later in life.
  • Happy Family Conditions Apply (2023)
Released on Prime Video, the show brought together his signature humour and family dynamics, again showcasing his skill in balancing comedy with heartfelt moments.

Hats Off Productions

In 1999, Aatish Kapadia co-founded Hats Off Productions Pvt. Ltd. with JD Majethia. The banner has been responsible for creating some of Indian television’s most beloved and critically acclaimed shows across genres—comedy, slice-of-life, and drama. Under Kapadia’s creative leadership, Hats Off has set a benchmark for quality writing, authentic character development, and innovative formats.

The company is recognized for:

  • Nurturing fresh writing and directorial talent.
  • Championing family-centric narratives with realism and humour.
  • Consistently raising production standards in Indian TV content.

Impact and Legacy

Aatish Kapadia’s work is frequently credited with:

  • Redefining Hindi sitcoms by bringing in intelligent, situational comedy rather than slapstick.
  • Setting a template for ensemble casts and character-driven storytelling.
  • Maintaining cultural specificity (Gujarati family ethos) while making shows relatable across India.

His creative contributions continue to influence contemporary TV and OTT content in India.
