Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for several significant development projects in Maharashtra worth over Rs 7,600 crore via video conferencing on October 9, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure, boost connectivity, and empower youth across the state.

Among the key projects inaugurated are:

  1. 10 Government Medical Colleges: Operationalized to improve healthcare access and increase the number of medical seats in Maharashtra.
  2. Upgradation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur: Estimated to cost around Rs 7,000 crore, this project aims to stimulate growth in various sectors including aviation and tourism.
  3. New Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport: With a budget of over Rs 645 crore, this facility is designed to cater to the needs of religious tourists visiting Shirdi.
  4. Indian Institute of Skills, Mumbai: Established to create an industry-ready workforce, focusing on areas such as mechatronics and data analytics.
  5. Vidya Samiksha Kendra, Maharashtra: Aimed at improving educational management through access to vital data and resources for students, teachers, and administrators.

In his address, Modi highlighted the rapid pace of development in Maharashtra, referencing past initiatives that have included expansion projects for the Metro network and various infrastructure upgrades. He praised the recent recognition of Marathi as a classical language, noting its significance in giving voice to the people of Maharashtra.

Modi emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure and education in lifting millions out of poverty, mentioning the government’s initiatives that have reportedly benefited 25 crore people over the past decade. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering the youth through skill development and affordable healthcare.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to create a prosperous Maharashtra and a robust India, with a vision for welfare that includes farmers, youth, and women. Notable attendees at the event included the Governor of Maharashtra, C P Radhakrishnan, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
