Maharashtra Sets Up Special Cell to Fast-Track Dharavi Redevelopment Approvals

Maharashtra has created a Special Cell to fast-track approvals for the 620-acre Dharavi Redevelopment Project impacting nearly 10 lakh people.

Dharavi Redevelopment: Non-Slum Dwellers to Get Minimum 500 Sq Ft Homes Under Major Policy Upgrade

Residents of buildings and chawls in Dharavi will now get a minimum of 500 sq ft rehabilitation units (370 sq ft carpet + 35% fungible) free of cost, up to a maximum of 753 sq ft, under a proposed amendment to development regulations. The change does not apply to slum hutment dwellers.

In Dharavi Redevelopment: Undecided Doesn’t Mean Ineligible

In the latest update on Mumbai’s Dharavi Redevelopment Project, only 2% of surveyed tenements are ineligible, with 57% secured for housing and 30.6% pending verification. Tracing back to failed 2000s tenders, the current Adani-led effort includes a four-tier appeal system to address disputes, aiming for 125,000 homes in the world’s largest urban renewal initiative.
