Mumbai, November 3, 2025:
The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has carried out a major demolition drive against HDIL’s (Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd.) unauthorized construction at Building No. 11, Motilal Nehru Nagar, Bandra (East), BKC. The action, initiated under the directives of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, was led by SRA CEO Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar (IAS).

The crackdown targeted illegal hotel structures that had been constructed in violation of the approved building plan under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme.

Demolition Conducted Under Tight Police Protection

The 10-storey building, including its ground floor, had been illegally modified to accommodate a hotel facility. According to SRA officials, illegal alterations across eight floors — comprising nearly 160 units — were demolished during the operation.

A large police contingent was deployed to ensure smooth execution of the drive, which continued for several hours amid tight security. Officials confirmed that the remaining unauthorized portions of the structure will be demolished in the following phase, scheduled to begin immediately.

High Court-Mandated Action

The SRA clarified that the demolition was executed in strict compliance with Bombay High Court orders, which had directed the Authority to act against any unauthorized modifications in redevelopment projects within the BKC region.

Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar has been at the forefront of enforcing stringent measures against illegal constructions across Mumbai’s slum rehabilitation zones. The latest crackdown reinforces SRA’s zero-tolerance stance toward builders violating sanctioned plans under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme.
