MHADA has found 625 homes in three locations of Mumbai. These homes MHADA will give the authorities that can be used for quarantine during the Covid-19 crisis.

The MHADA homes are located in Kandivlai, Charkop and Mankhurd. There are 265 homes that are located in Mankhurd PMGP colony. A total of 170 homes are located in Charkop area and the remaining 190 homes are located in Kandivali’s Mahavir Nagar.

When contacted Bhushan Desai, Executive Engineer, Residential, Mumbai Board, MHADA asking whether MHADA has found homes to be used for quarantine purpose, he confirmed the figures. These homes belong to Mumbai board and were empty.

B Radhakrishnan, Chief Officer, Mumbai Board said, “We have identified few completed or near completed buildings in Bimbisar Nagar, Charkop, Mankhurd, Goregaon. Given details of it to suburban collector. If there is need for them, we will make it available.”

MHADA is the premium housing authority in the state of Maharashtra. It constructs home in the city of Mumbai and other areas of the state, which it later sells to the common public via lottery to common public.

On Tuesday, the BMC commissioner had come out with an order. The order is for requisitioning of empty residential buildings, lodges, hotels, dharmashalas, clubs, exhibition centers, colleges, hostels, dormitories, residential cruise ships, marriage halls, gymkhanas, banquet halls, institutions with immediate effect.

These vacant rooms will be used for quarantining of persons who were in contact with a positive Covid-19 patient and are not symptomatic.

The number of patients because of the Coronavirus in the city is increasing with every passing day. The BMC commissioner had stated that many people who come in contact of positive Covid-19 patients in some particular buildings, areas and localities are living in very small houses or very dense houses and are using common sanitation facilities and thereby are vulnerable to get infected.

In Mumbai Metropolitan Region there are close to 2.10 lakh homes that are unsold as of Quarter 1 of 2020, of these close to 60 per ent of the homes are located in Mumbai.
