BJP MLA Narayan Kuche had got twice lucky in the recently concluded MHADA lottery.

The BJP MLA won the most expensive house in MHADA lottery priced at ₹7.57 crore, located at Crescent Towers, Tardeo in the MP/MLA quota. He also won another house in the same building in the Scheduled Caste Quota, and was in the waiting list in the general category.

Kuche to win the house in MP/MLA quota had to defeat his senior colleague in the BJP Bhagwat Karad. Karad is a central minister in the Modi cabinet.

However, the BJP MLA has now decided to not pursue the houses he won in the lottery, the same MHADA lottery for which people try their best of luck.

So why did Kuche give up on the dream of owning a house in South Mumbai?

Kuche told Square Feat India that he couldn’t afford the house. “Earlier I had thought I will manage the money, I even applied for a home loan and then realised that the EMI for the home loan would be ₹7 lakh per month,” said Kuche.

Kuche claimed that he just can’t afford to pay such huge an EMI. “I am a farmer, the money that I will have to pay is huge and I can’t afford it, my father had told me, ‘अंथरूण पाहून पाय पसरावे’ which means don’t do things beyond one’s capacity. Hence, I have decided to let go both the flats,” the BJP MLA said.

So what happens next? The waiting list will be activated by MHADA, in case of the MP/MLA, the next in line is BJP minister in the centre Bhagwat Karad, he will now own the house.

MHADA had 4082 homes up for grabs in the Mumbai Board lottery for which more than 1.2 lakh applications were received.

The lottery was held on August 14, at Y B Chavan Centre in Nariman Point.
