The Maharashtra government has introduced an automated system to streamline the process of verifying slum dwellers’ eligibility for rehabilitation. The initiative, known as the Automated Annexure-II System, aims to enhance transparency and reduce manual intervention in the eligibility verification process.

Government Approval for Automated Eligibility System

According to the Government Resolution (GR) dated March 18, 2025, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in Mumbai will implement the automated system for verifying documents required for determining the eligibility of slum dwellers. This system will utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for biometric household surveys, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Ensuring Transparency and Reducing Manual Intervention

Previously, eligibility verification relied on a manual process that included checking electricity bills, business licenses, voter ID cards, and other documents. However, this method was time-consuming and susceptible to human intervention. The new automated system will eliminate these inefficiencies by digitally verifying the required documents, reducing delays, and enhancing transparency.

Mandatory Implementation for All Authorities

The government has mandated that all relevant authorities, including the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, must adopt the Automated Annexure-II System. Failure to implement the system could lead to disciplinary action against officials, and expenses incurred using previous methods will be recovered from responsible officers.

Enhancing Efficiency in Slum Rehabilitation Projects

The implementation of this system is expected to expedite slum rehabilitation projects across Mumbai, ensuring that eligible residents receive their rightful benefits without unnecessary delays. The Maharashtra government has emphasized the need for strict compliance with this resolution and directed authorities to avoid manual processing of eligibility documents moving forward.

This initiative represents a significant step towards modernizing Mumbai’s slum rehabilitation efforts, reducing bureaucratic delays, and ensuring fair treatment for slum dwellers.
