In a major boost to affordable housing in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has set an ambitious target to construct 13,012 housing units across the state in the financial year 2026–27.

The authority has also received approval for a ₹17,430.73 crore budget, marking a significant increase from the revised ₹12,399.22 crore budget for FY26.

Strong Push for Affordable Housing Across Maharashtra

The new housing supply will be developed through MHADA’s regional boards in:

  • Mumbai
  • Pune
  • Konkan Region
  • Nashik
  • Amravati
  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
  • Nagpur

Out of the total budget, ₹10,585.12 crore has been allocated specifically for construction costs, highlighting the government’s focus on increasing housing supply across income segments.

Region-Wise Housing Targets

MHADA’s housing plan is spread across multiple regions, catering to various income groups:

  • Mumbai Board: 2,538 housing units with a construction allocation of ₹6,747.42 crore
  • Konkan Board: 5,112 units with ₹1,497.64 crore allocation
  • Pune Board: 665 units with ₹664 crore allocation
  • Nagpur Board: 2,008 units with ₹1,206.19 crore allocation
  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Board: 1,483 units with ₹258.32 crore allocation
  • Nashik Board: 237 units with ₹151.57 crore allocation
  • Amravati Board: 969 units with ₹59.98 crore allocation

Among all regions, the Konkan and Mumbai regions together account for a significant share of the total planned housing supply.

Additional Budget for Urban Infrastructure and Repairs

Apart from new housing construction, MHADA has also earmarked funds for urban improvement and maintenance:

  • ₹2,711.95 crore allocated for works under the Mumbai Slum Improvement Board through government and MLA funds
  • ₹661.73 crore allocated for repair and reconstruction of cessed buildings, transit accommodations, and maintenance of redeveloped structures under the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board
