The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to host its Eighth Lokshahi Din on January 13, 2025, at 12 PM at its headquarters in Bandra East. Since its inception in January 2024, Lokshahi Din has successfully resolved over 50 citizen grievances, addressing a broad spectrum of issues related to housing, redevelopment, and tenancy. The initiative, led by Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, serves as a citizen-centric platform where individuals can directly present their concerns to senior officials, ensuring transparency and accountability in resolving long-standing issues.

Lokshahi Din has tackled 35 housing-related grievances, including ownership disputes and incomplete documentation; 12 redevelopment issues, such as delays in flat allocations; and 6 tenancy-related cases, including excessive rents in transit camps. Some of the issues addressed were unresolved for decades, with some cases dating back over 30 years. For example, disputes concerning ownership regularization, redevelopment delays, and incomplete documentation were effectively resolved, bringing much-needed relief to citizens who had been waiting for years.

One notable case involved the resolution of a 35-year-old ownership dispute regarding a flat in Andheri, which was settled after a detailed review of the documents. Another case addressed delayed flat allocations under redevelopment agreements, ensuring that tenants received their rightful homes. Additionally, a long-term transit tenant in Worli had their rent reduced significantly after MHADA reviewed and corrected excessive charges that had been levied for years.

Jaiswal emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “Lokshahi Din ensures that grievances affecting citizens are resolved with fairness and urgency. By providing clear resolutions to complex issues, we aim to strengthen public trust and deliver results that directly improve people’s lives.”

The upcoming Lokshahi Din will take place on January 13, 2025, and citizens wishing to participate must submit their grievances in duplicate using the prescribed format available on the MHADA website (https://mhada.gov.in). Applications must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the session and should include all necessary supporting documents. Only personal grievances will be accepted, while sub-judice matters, repeated complaints, and unrelated issues will not be considered. Ineligible applications will be forwarded to the relevant departments for further action.

MHADA encourages citizens and media professionals to attend the January session and witness the authority’s continued commitment to resolving housing and redevelopment challenges in Mumbai.
