Owning a house in Mumbai is the dream that many have. However, the realty prices in Mumbai doesn’t let many fulfill this dream.

It is when the government’s affordable housing scheme comes into play.

In the state of Maharashtra, MHADA has been assigned the task of providing affordable homes to the common citizen.

This Diwali, MHADA’s Mumbai board has a gift for common citizens.

According to a senior official from MHADA’s Mumbai Board, a lottery of 4,000 homes shall be held during Diwali.

Of the 4,000 homes, 3,400 homes are located at Pahadi’s Goregaon area.

The official says that these are under construction homes and by Diwali a considerable work on these homes would be carried out.

In December, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad had announced that MHADA would soon hold a lottery in Mumbai.

Since then the Mumbai Board has been working day in and out to find homes in the city for the lottery.

The biggest hurdle that the Mumbai Board faced was most of its apartments are under construction and hence they couldn’t be brought in the lottery at this stage.

By Diwali it is expected that a considerable amount of construction will be carried out of these homes.

“By Diwali the lottery process will begin,” said the official.

By March end, another lottery of 7,500 homes are being held by Konkan Board of MHADA.

In this lottery homes located in Thane and Kalyan will be put in the lottery.

These homes again in the affordable segment are means for the Economically Weaker Section and Lower Income Group.

On Thursday MHADA held a lottery for the apartments that would be handed over to residents of BDD Chawls located at N M Joshi Marg.

The lottery on Thursday was of 272 eligible tenants of the BDD Chawl. The homes allotted to them are in the proposed redeveloped building that shall come in place of the chawls.

The tenants currently reside in 160 square feet apartments and once redeveloped the tenants of BDD chawls will be residing in 500 square feet 2BHK apartments.
