The entry points of Mumbai city are set to expand, MSRDC will acquire the empty land next to toll booths to increase lanes from existing 16 to 32.

MSRDC has already written to the BMC to allow them to use the land next to toll entry points.

The land next to toll entry points belong to Mumbai city’s Municipal Corporation and are now lying unused.

At these Mumbai entry points there were Octroi plazas. With the advent of GST, octroi has been abolished and they are lying vacant now.

Kamlakar Phand, CGM, MSRDC, confirmed the corporation writing a letter to BMC and seeking their land for toll naka expansion.

There are five entry points in Mumbai, they are Mulund (Eastern Expressway), Mulund (LBS), Airoli, Vashi and Dahisar.

“Currently we have eight lanes for inbound and eight lanes for outbound traffic at these entry points. With land from the BMC we are expecting that these lanes would double to 32 on both sides,” said Phand.

How will this benefit the common man. Phand says, “The time that one has to spend at the toll booth will reduce because of this.”

There are times when one gets stuck for quite a long time at the toll booths, this will reduce the time one spends in the congestion.

Currently the expansion according to Phand says may face a temporary difficulty only at Mulund (LBS) and Dahisar. At Dahisar the ongoing metro work and LBS the space constraint.

MSRDC is hopeful that the BMC will soon gives its nod, as this project will benefit the common citizens using the toll roads on daily basis.

With less time to commute and reach home faster, the real estate in the areas beyond Mumbai will also see an impact.
