In a significant real estate move, Indian cricketer KL Rahul and veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty have jointly acquired a substantial landholding in Owale, Thane West, for a reported amount of ₹9.85 crore. The duo has purchased 7 acres of undivided land that is part of a larger parcel measuring approximately 30 acres and 17 guntha, as per official records accessed via the website of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR), Maharashtra.

The transaction was registered in March 2025 and reviewed by Square Yards, a prominent real estate advisory platform. According to the property registration documents, the deal also attracted a stamp duty of ₹68.96 lakh and registration charges of ₹30,000.

Strategic Location and Investment Potential

Owale, the site of the land acquisition, is situated in Thane West, in proximity to the bustling Ghodbunder Road. This location is widely regarded as one of Thane’s most promising corridors, offering seamless connectivity between the Eastern and Western Express Highways. It also provides easy access to business hubs spread across Thane, Mumbai, and the western suburbs.

The purchased land spans approximately 28,327.95 square meters (or about 33,879.58 square yards), making it a significant holding within the fast-developing region. Real estate experts suggest that this deal not only reflects the growing confidence in the Thane market but also points to the increasing trend of celebrities and sports personalities investing in strategic land parcels for long-term gains.

Profiles of the Investors

KL Rahul, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, has represented the country across all formats. Known for his elegant batting style and leadership abilities, Rahul has served as vice-captain of the national team and has captained multiple franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been honored with accolades like the CEAT T20 International Cricketer of the Year and continues to be among the top performers in Indian cricket.

Suniel Shetty, a household name in Indian cinema, has had an illustrious career spanning over three decades. Beyond entertainment, he is actively involved in business ventures related to fitness, hospitality, and real estate. His contribution to Indian cinema has been recognized with the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Award.

A Celebrity Trend in Real Estate

This acquisition is yet another example of how Indian celebrities, particularly from the sports and entertainment sectors, are turning to real estate investments as a means to diversify their portfolios. With the Thane region witnessing infrastructural upgrades and rising demand for both residential and commercial spaces, such strategic purchases are seen as lucrative long-term bets.

As development in Thane continues to accelerate, the KL Rahul–Suniel Shetty acquisition could pave the way for more high-profile investments in this growing micro-market.
